Sugar Creek Administration Center

Joliet, IL

Sugar Creek Administration Center in Joliet, Illinois, is the main administration building for the Will County Forest Preserve. The Leadership in Energy & Environment Design Council (LEED) has recognized the Sugar Creek Administration center as a model of green architecture. The eco-friendly technologies installed onsite are photovoltaic panels that supplement 18 percent of electricity consumption and a passive solar heating and cooling system in which a large skylight allows sunlight to penetrate an interior space where precast concrete panels absorb that energy. Recycled building materials included insulated precast made from recycled crushed concrete and lumber, plastics, and crushed concrete for fill.
GAC provided construction services for this 24,000-square-foot green building. It required specialized knowledge of mechanical systems and building materials that minimize harmful effects on human health and the environment. The scope of work also included constructing additional parking areas, outdoor pavilions, ADA-compliant facilities, and walking trails.
