Four Rivers is an island location surrounded by the DuPage, Des Plaines, Illinois rivers and the I&M Canal. When starting the project, it was only accessible by driving down a bike path. The most difficult part of the project was that the design required us to gut out an existing building and build around it in order to create a new structure. Many green materials were used, including recycled materials such as wheat board and products made from sunflower seeds and recycled plastics. There is a state of the art heating and cooling system. To the south of the building, there is an undetectable geothermal field which contains 33 well heads that go down 300 feet which heats and cools the building at a very economical cost.
