We also had to remove hazardous materials on site while still maintaining the schedule and dealing with about 1,000 commuters a day at the train station which was still operating during construction. This project contained phasing which added an additional burden to the schedule because one phase had to be completed in order to begin work on the next. We put in new 800 foot platforms both northbound and southbound. High end materials were used, including specialty copper, slate roofing, natural stone veneers, elaborate mill work and cherry finishes and high end flooring. It is a timber structure inside with a 3 inch wood deck ceiling. The site is so beautiful that people marry there, hold bridal and baby showers and have receptions, which has really instilled a sense of community in the area.
