Amtrak MACC - Laurel, MS - Station Renovations

Laurel, MS

The Laurel train station project included the renovation of an existing historical depot served by Amtrak with ADA-compliance upgrades set forth by the Department of Transportation. The work included the removal of the existing concrete and asphalt passenger platform, including all lighting, signage, sidewalks, and adjacent landscapes. As the general contractor, we could provide and successfully implement value engineering principles based on our extensive knowledge of railroad work to bring the project costs down for the owner. The construction included a new 650-feet concrete passenger platform with a detectable warning surface. We engineered and installed helical pile foundations to support the new platform. This project consisted of many custom delegated design elements, including custom historic guardrails and the erection of a custom wheelchair lift building. The project also includes new custom lighting, wayfinding signage, and accessible routes from the public right of way to the station platform. Successful completion of this project improved the critically important upgrade of allowing full ADA access to this historic depot.
